Why I started Humedi PDF Print E-mail

Why did I set up this organisation and openly flout the law? Because I have been given no choice by my illness, nor have my morals been given a choice. People need help. Nobody else is helping them. This wrong needs to be put to right...

Stuart Wyatt - playing with mad dog in better daysHi,

My name is Stuart Wyatt, Im 34, from Plymouth and I am a sufferer of an as-yet-undiagnosed condition. I am undiagnosed because it takes an eternity to see specialists on the NHS. Im still over a month away from seeing a neurologist for the first time. I've been waiting 2 months already.

My main symptoms are:

  • Severe nerve pain throughout my body
  • Loss of mobility/dexterity/balance
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Uncontrollable shaking
  • Eyesight problems
  • Weak bladder control
  • etc. etc. etc.

Needless to say, life has not been too fun lately. Before all this kicked in, I was a successful musician - my old band was just about to be signed, my solo project was about to be launched, I was setting up a music school... things were rosy. I played a fairly unique instrument - 6 string electric violin, and utilised guitar multi-effects fully.

(My penultimate gig with Mad Dog McRea , Nov 06)

I've not been unable to pursue my career for 18 months now. I've been unable to play the violin at all since New Years Eve...

I've been down the NHS route with medication. At the height of my 'pill popping' days, I was on 2200mg Gabapentin, 20mg prozac and 20mg Amitryptiline. I was a total psychotic zombie on these 'safe' and 'legal' drugs. I attempted suicide whilst on these pills... and I cant even remember doing it! I quit all pharmacutical medication in October last year.

What  I have known since day one is that when I take good herbal cannabis, I feel better. My pain reduces (and even dissapears when I have the correct strain). My shakes decline. My dexterity, balance and energy returns... and my mood lifts - which is the only discernable side-effect that I have noticed so far.  My bladder control is better, but alas, it does not seem to do much for my eyesight problems at the moment - but cannabis is not a cure-all drug.

Medical evidence proves that cannabis and cannabinoid medicine is a wonder drug for people like myself who have been failed by the current list of 'safe' medication. Why is cannabinoid medicine banned when opiate medicine is rife? The logic of it all baffles me. Nobody in power will debate with me on this issue.

Herald FrontpageI had problems over the New Year finding sufficient quality medicine. My health started declining rapidly, and then I head about the THC4MS sentencing... I became very angry. I ended up speaking out on You and Yours, on BBC Radio4.

The next day, I appeared on the front page of the local paper (on a Saturday too...).

The sentencing was the straw that broke the camels back. I had never had any contact with Mark, Lezley or Marcus, nor had I received any of their chocolate, but I had admired them from a sidelines. They were providing a service to some very needy people, who had been totally failed and forgotten about by society.

They should have been given OBE's, not convictions.

Disability Now Cannbis article - frontpageSo, in honour of THC4MS, BudBuddies and everyone else who have been stopped by our ridiculous government, Humedi is born. It is a decentralised network of people... not centralised. If I get stopped for whatever reason, Humedi will continue without me.

Humedi is what ever we will make it. I hope that it will be able to give the silent sufferers a voice, and to allow us to all make a stand and say "Enough is Enough!".

Lets start growing. Lets start sharing, supporting and helping. We deserve the right to lead a normal life. We are not criminals, and we certainly have nothing to be ashamed of! Our only crime is that we want to feel well... Where are the victims of our crimes? How does the current law cater for people like us?...

It doesnt. The law ignores medical evidence and advice. The system totally ignores people like myself (and an estimated 500,000 similar people throughout the country).

Not any more. Humedi is a place where we can group together and each have an equal voice. Lets step out of the commercial cannabis market and help ourselves! Lets help destroy the current 'reefer-madness' campaign that the government was paid to promote by the pharmacutical companies. Lets tell the country the truth.

If we all stood up and spoke out at once, we would win.... :)

- Stuart Wyatt
