Breaking through the Downing Street Firewall PDF Print E-mail

Firstly, I would like to applaud and commend Sarah Martin for her stamina, courage and sacrifice in completing the Great Northern Run yesterday. I was in contact with her throughout the day, and her multiple sclerosis and a damaged foot did not prevent her from crossing the finishing line at around 4pm yesterday. By the time she crossed the line, sadly, the camera crews were already dismantling their equipment. I am a little upset that there was not much support from the cannabis community in general in getting the news out about her participation, but Sarah and I did our best to inform the media and general public.  She will no doubt write an update when she returns home (after some rest). WELL DONE SARAH!!! :)

I had a very rough night last night. Im back on the NHS poison meds, and am looking forward to being constipated and suffering hot & cold sweats just in the hope that I will receive some relief from the pain. If I cant sleep or go out, then I will have to spend my time on the telephone, fully utilising my new  'call unlimited' price plan. Time to hassle Downing street again....

So, at 8.30am this morning, I started calling Downing Street again, using the 020 7276 3000 telephone number. I spoke to a lovely lady (Hi Yvonne) at the press department after being transfered from the DCU (Direct Communications Unit) who promised to email the diary secretary and chase up a response to my previous faxes. I promised Yvonne that I would call every 2 hours until somebody spoke to me... and wished her a lovely day. I feel sorry for her, as her office seems like the default office for any unsolicited break-throughs of the governmental firewall.

I then thought "Why not phone the diary secretary myself?"..... her response was "We cant give out the name of the diary secretary for security reasons".... *sigh*.... Its not her fault, she has rules she has to abide to.

A quick google later, and I managed to uncover the name of Gordon Browns gatekeeper - SUE NYE. I once again managed to break through the firewall of robot telephone operators, and got through to Sue's office. She was not there, but the  person who answered did try to put me through to her mobile (which failed). She asked for my name and telephone number (which I left), and I will give Sue 2 hours to respond.

It is now 9.14am. I will update this thread with every attempt at trying to speak to a human being there.

[9:50am] I have faxed this blog entry along with Fridays blog entry to Gordon Browns fax machine

[11:30] Phoned Downing street again, and asked to speak to Sue Nye. (Pivotal figure in Mr Brown's team, where she acts as the Chancellor's "gate-keeper". Married to Gavyn Davies, the former BBC chairman, she introduced Mr Brown to his wife Sarah. Credited with helping to smooth some of the Chancellor's rough edges. Helps dilute the blokeish, football obsessed atmosphere of the inner circle. Fiercely loyal and once described those not on Mr Brown's side as "radioactive".). She was not at her desk, and her PA's line was busy. I left my telephone number once again with the Downing Street switchboard operator, and asked Sue to call me back. If I do not get a call, I will phone again at 13:30.

[11:50] I tried phoning Michael Ellam once again, but found myself at the DCU (Direct Communications Unit) again. I spoke to a lovely girl called Danielle, who asked me to fax the original letter to Gordon Brown directly to her (Fax number: 0207 925 0918), and she would personally send it to the Diary Secretary (who is currently without a name - and google has come up with nothing). Danielle phone back within seconds to say that she had received the fax. Thank you Danielle!

[14:51] Sue Nye's P.A. (Launa) called me to find out more information about why I wanted a meeting with Gordon Brown, and I filled her in with the facts (without pulling any punches). She seemed quite sympathetic on the phone, and after warning her that I would be calling every two hours for as long as my health allows, she has promised to let Sue know asap. Fingers crossed, I wont have to keep pushing the government like this, as its not doing my health any good at all. The NHS medication is really starting to affect the way I think, and I seem to be in and out of conciousness regularly and uncontrollably... Fingers crossed people :)
